It is August 2012. It is hot. It is drought hot. The political campaigns were heating up with nasty and misleading ads from both camps airing early and often during the Olympics. And, we all struggled on where to go for relief? What better place than the local pool. Shade, a lemonade and the opportunity to float, splash and cool off in the pool especially after the awkward “pike” of the diving board. There is a problem with going to the pool though….it is filled with kids: screeching, hollering, playing marco polo, tag as well as sharks and minnows. Those darn kids take up the space from the adults hoping to have a chance to wade in waist high and just talk a bit. And, then the glorious whistle sounds for Adult Swim. Kids hate it. Adults love it.
Well from where we are sitting it looks and sounds like Mitt Romney blew his whistle for Adult Swim this weekend by naming Paul Ryan as his VP (and we think Tony Horton of P90x fame might be the happiest capitalist in America). We know there will be more “name calling” and mis-statements from both sides on the other guys’ policies. Its politics and we are used to that. We aren’t saying here that we endorse anyone or any particular political stance but when the headlines and the articles evoke “bold and stark” we cannot help but be a tad excited for Adult Swim. Maybe, just maybe, in the face of economic woes, international uncertainty and political malaise we will get a campaign about the issues, about the future, about a path that people want this government and our Country to follow. It appears that this campaign will be about the issues: the role and size of government; the applicability of Obamacare; Medicare, and Medicaid; domestic spending and foreign policy.
We, at Votifi, think this is a good thing. And, when we see the good folks at the Wall Street Journal and Washington Post agree we begin to think that maybe, just maybe there will be a little less screaming and a little more debate. We applaud Perry Bacon, Jr. in The Grio (@perrybaconjr) and Adrian Carasquillo for NBCLatino (@RealAdrianC) who both felt the same way that Mr. Romney went big and now we get to see what the President has in store as the counter-punch……cannonball ?
